Loved this episode! My wife and I are liturgy nerds so a lot of this discussion was very familiar from the planning of our recent wedding. We kept to gender-neutral language throughout, mixing and matching from the prayer book (changing pronouns where necessary) and the new liturgy. We had a processional hymn (Christ is Made the Sure Foundation) which moved into Charpentier's Prelude to Te Deum for the bride's entrance. The entire parish was invited to the ceremony, so it felt more like a service of the church than just "our day".
ReplyDeleteWe also served as chalice bearers in the (open table) Eucharist. This was very meaningful for us and for many of our guests; I would highly recommend it.
Michael, thanks for writing about this, and I'm glad you liked the episode. Would love to see your full liturgy if you care to share. riteandmusical@gmail.com
