One argument for a 3-year lectionary cycle is the variety of texts a preacher has to choose from. A one-year cycle becomes increasingly difficult to say something new about a text after 5-6 years. But if there movement for a one-year historic lectionary that has ecumenical overtones, what about adopting the lectionary of the Orthodox Church? Food for thought. My dream lectionary would be a one-year cycle for pre-Lent, Lent, and Eastertide with a three-year cycle the rest of the year.
